Dubai is synonymous with luxury, innovation, and desert charm, and it continues to be an attractive destination for travellers around the world when the summer heat is on. Although Dubai in July is hot, it has its redeeming factors: there are hardly any crowds, hotel deals that are too good to pass up, and plenty of indoor entertainment to keep you cool and entertained.

When planning your trip to Dubai during the summer months, you need to pack smart and have an idea of how to utilise your limited time given the heat. Whether you're spending just a couple of hours there or planning a week-long vacation, these tips will help you decide what to pack, what to do, and how to best utilise your time.

Dubai in July: What You Can Expect

View of Dubai Buildings

Let's be honest. It’s gonna be hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Daytime temperatures are regularly hotter than 42 degrees Celsius/107 degrees Fahrenheit and the evening temperature rarely gets below 30 degrees Celsius/86 degrees Fahrenheit. But please don't let that scare you away. Dubai is designed to manage summers like this, especially with the air conditioning in the malls, hotels, public transport, and public bus stops.

Despite the warmth, July is an ideal month for budget travelers. Often flights are cheaper and hotels have summer deals. Enjoy attractions that remain fully open to the public without the crowds and long wait lines.

What to Pack for Summer in Dubai

Packing wisely will make your trip much more comfortable. Your bags should include:

1. Lightweight and Breathable Clothing

  • This means cotton, linen, or a good moisture-wicking fabric.

  • Maxi dresses, wide-leg pants, loose tops, etc.

  • Avoid packing dark colors, like black, as these absorb the heat.

2. Modest Clothing

  • While modern, Dubai can still be conservative.

  • When in public spaces (malls, restaurants, mosques, etc.), make sure to cover your shoulders and knees.

3. Protection From The Sun

  • Wide-brim hat or cap

  • High SPF sunscreen (at least SPF 50)

  • UV protected sunglasses

  • Lip balm with SPF

4. Comfy Footwear

  • Sandals for walking around indoors.

  • Sneakers are best when you are doing a lot of walking/sightseeing/theme parks.

5. Swim Attire

● Most hotels will have beautiful pools!

● Make sure you pack modest swimwear for public beaches, while bikinis are permitted in hotel/resort pools.

6. Hydration

● Reusable water bottle.

● Electrolyte tablets or hydration powders can help.

Best Things to Do in Dubai in the Summer

Night View of Burj Khalifa

So what if it's hot, you still don’t have to miss out. Here are the best ways to enjoy your summer trip:

1. Visit the Burj Khalifa (Indoors & Air-Conditioned)

A trip to the Burj Khalifa is a must. Choosing to go during either the day or night is up to you personally. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you decide:

Burj Khalifa Day vs Night

  • Day Visit: Great if you want clearer views of the desert, sea and skyline. If you are a photographer the day is also good for that.

  • Night Visit: Enchanting city views and the whole city is filled with lights. You can even see the Dubai Fountain Show above for the romantic vibe.

  • Tip: You should always book your Burj Khalifa tickets online in advance because you can skip the queues and tickets are cheaper when booked in advance. The two popular observation decks are:

  1. At the Top (Levels 124 & 125)

  2. At the Top SKY (Level 148) - Premium Experience

It is a rewarding and memorable experience to visit Burj Khalifa day vs. night.

2. Dubai Mall & Indoor Attractions

Another fantastic option is to get out of the heat for the day at Dubai Mall. It is one of the biggest shopping malls in the world and not just for shopping. Here are some things you can do besides shopping:

  • Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo

  • VR Park for gaming and virtual experiences

  • Ice Rink for a surprising chill

  • Cinemas, food courts and fine dining

If you wanted to, you could walk to the Burj Khalifa from inside there as well, as they also have air-conditioned pathways.

3. Enjoy Indoor Theme Parks

Dubai is packed with indoor attractions, especially for families and thrill-seekers, like:

  • IMG Worlds of Adventure - An indoor theme park offering roller coasters, rides and areas of cartoon attractions

  • Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates - As the title suggests, there is indoor skiing and snowboarding in the desert!

4. Relax at Luxury Hotels and Pools

Summer in Dubai is prime time for discounted 5-star hotels and resorts. Most will offer access to rooftop pools, private cabanas and in-house spas!

A few suggestions are:

  • Burj Al Arab Jumeirah for ultimate luxury!

  • Address Downtown for easy access to the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa.

  • Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on the Palm for beachside comfort.

5. Evening Desert Safari

A daytime desert safari isn't advisable in July; rather, an evening desert safari is ideal for the cooler temperatures. Most tours will begin at around 4 PM and will consist of:

  • Dune bashing in an air-conditioned SUV

  • Sunset camel rides

  • BBQ dinners and entertainment

  • Stargazing under the cool desert sky.

6. Burj Khalifa Lounge Experience

For a more exclusive experience, book a session at the Burj Khalifa Lounge (Levels 152–154). Situated above the hustle and bustle below, Burj Khalifa Lounge awaits at the world’s tallest building! This opulent, high-rise lounge features refreshment and refreshments, live musical performances, and the (arguably) most stunning views of any city. To be at Burj Khalifa at sunset is simply breathtaking!

Final Thoughts

Regardless of the time of year, and specifically this time of year, while Dubai City might not be the first choice on your list of travel destinations, it is a unique and surprisingly pleasant travel experience. By following these tips for what to pack and activities and destinations for when you are there, you will be cool and relaxed as you discover all the city has to offer. From luxurious lounges, located high in Burj Khalifa, to fascinating indoor experiences, and incredible evenings enjoyed under the stars in the desert.

So book your air tickets to Dubai, buy your Burj Khalifa tickets, and pack your sunscreen! Get ready for an incredible escape from home and the ordinary! Remember, although Dubai is hot, it is an exciting and exhilarating travel destination.
